May 19, 2016 Update

I haven’t made a post in 10 days, mainly because I just upload two videos daily and update the pages on the site whenever something is uploaded (but not yet published).

  • Linear Algebra and Mathematical Linguistics are going well. Linear Algebra will probably end up being around 55 videos total, meaning it will be done late June. Mathematical Linguistics has finished covering the first 2 sections as of June 5th, so formal languages and abstract algebra are all that remains.
  • Practice Questions will move from Discrete Math 1 to Linear Algebra as of the 29th of May. I will use the practice question videos for doing 1 or 2 proofs that I could not cover in the lecture video (because they were asides or generally not that important for understanding the basics of the material)

May 9, 2016 Update

I’m happy with the progress that’s being made in the past few weeks. As of May 24th, that will be two videos a day for 30 straight days, which is something I have not been able to do in a long time. I now feel confident to list my summer goals.

  • 1. Finish Linear Algebra

I still need to finish covering some material on vector spaces, then all that remains are determinants, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, orthogonality, and least-squares. This should be done by the end of June.

  • 2. Finish Mathematical Linguistics

By mid June, compositional semantics with propositional and predicate logic will be complete. Then I can begin formal languages, which will likely end around mid July. I expect the whole course to be done in August if I release a video every other day.

  • 3. Continue Practice Question Series

When Linear Algebra is close to being done, I will start releasing practice problems for that as well. I am targeting Discrete Math right now because it’s a very, very diverse area and I can cover a lot of variety. Long term plans are to release one exercise video every day for any of the subjects on the channel.

  • 4. Start Intro to Real Analysis

I’ve been debating this one. Realistically, I should start this course with set theory, functions, relations, and more. What I’ll probably do instead is do one video on each topic with a few main proofs, and refer back to Discrete Math 1/2 for the rest of the material. Otherwise I’d be doing 12-15 videos of material I’ve already covered 2-3 times on the channel which is pointless. This would start after Linear Algebra ends.

  • 5. Start Calculus 2

This would alternate with Intro to Real Analysis on a daily basis. I left it 7 lectures in and I think the quality is fine. This would start after Mathematical Linguistics ends.



May 4, 2016 Update

A lot of the links will be private for now. Unfortunately, I cannot have YouTube videos both unlisted and scheduled. I’d prefer it if I could link to the videos and have them all available here, while still being published daily on the YouTube channel. Unfortunately, that can’t happen, so some links won’t be viewable yet. I’d suggest checking out for the videos I’ve already released.

April 27, 2016 Update

Videos are now being released on a schedule. I will outline the schedule as far as it is now. This will be consistent until a series is complete.

Every Day – Discrete Math Practice Problems

  • A video each day will consist of 2 or 3 questions on a various topic. I will start with the beginning of Discrete Math 1, then work forwards towards the end of Discrete Math 2. After I have about 30 of these done and the major topics covered, I may consider going back and doing more questions in random topics.

Alternating Days – Linear Algebra / Mathematical Linguistics

  • Every day I will alternate between Linear Algebra and Mathematical Linguistics until Linear Algebra is done. Mathematical Linguistics may take quite a while to complete, so I expect Linear Algebra to be done first. I do not know what will replace Linear Algebra when it’s done, but I’m debating between continuing Calculus 2 which I abandoned awhile ago, or Introduction to Analysis, which will start with PROOF-ONLY set theory, relations, functions, then move into basic field theory, sequences, limits, and derivatives.


In other news, Introduction to Linguistics is now complete. The full series is uploaded and available, as well as practice midterms for the content. Enjoy!

April 24, 2016 Update

  • Introduction to Linguistics Series is Complete

I have now finished the Introduction to Linguistics video series. Not all videos are public yet, but the links are active in the Intro Linguistics page. It is accompanied by two midterms with their solutions. There are no videos yet for these, but they may be made in the future.

  • Linear Algebra is being worked on

I created skeleton videos for linear algebra a few months back and have completely forgotten what some of the blanks are supposed to be, or where I’m supposed to input additional content not included in the skeleton. I’m going to have to remake the skeletons and streamline them better. This will be worked on shortly.

  • Discrete Math practice problem videos are being worked on

I am going to dedicate entire videos to 2 or 3 relevant practice problems from each section. This is the most popular series, so it only makes sense to add more computation/proof type questions.

  • Mathematical Linguistics is being worked on

This is a new series that covers all the basic math any linguist needs to know to go into mathematical linguistics. A large portion of the beginning of the course will overlap with Discrete Math, but I intend to introduce examples that are more linguistic-y and less math-y for those that are new to the whole math aspect of linguistics. It won’t be “dumbed down” per se, but there won’t be the same level of rigor as given in the discrete math courses.

In other words, the questions given will never be proofs. Instead, they will be applications of the content in a linguistic context. Except, of course, for the fundamentals of set theory and logic.

January 24, 2015

The first set of lectures are up in Calculus 2 at this time. This series will be continued shortly, but currently a unit on Trigonometry is being worked on for Precalculus 11 that will be uploaded shortly.

January 11, 2015

PreCalculus 11

  • All of Chapter 1 (Sequences and Series) has been uploaded. There is also a chapter test and solutions included in the exam files below.

Calculus 2

  • I have begun uploading the first sequence of videos for Calculus 2, all the way up to the indefinite integral. These will be done by the 17th.

Discrete Math 1

  • The uploads for the course are finished. A final exam has been added to the webpage, as well as the solution key for it.
